Video Tutorials

On this page I will post tutorials on various topics as I have time. Video tutorials can be a great way to learn. They also can be very annoying. I do not like watching a 45 minute tutorial that could have been done in 5. Sometimes I cannot hear, or understand, the person speaking. And, watching the mouse cursor spin circles drives me crazy.

I have decided to try something different. Very short, and very concise, tutorials. No music and no mumbling.

I will show how to use PDO with MySQL. There are five tutorials in this series. In order for the script to run correctly each part must be coded in full before going on to the next part.
Part 1. The PDO Object
Part 2. Error Reporting
Part 3. Create a Table
Part 4. Retrieve Data

PDO v/s MySQLi

There seems to be a lot of debate between people on whether PDO or MySQLi is better at database access. In this video I try to show some of the similarities, and the differences, between the two.

Installing the VersaPost

These videos are from the VersaPost website. I invented the VersaPost in order to have a steel post for wood fences that could be hidden from view. They work with both vertical and horizontal pickets. And, they can be used with pre-fabricated fence panels.

Replacing the Cables on a Toro Self-Propelled Lawn Mower

I purchased an inexpensive Toro lawn mower a few years ago. It has been a very good mower. However both the traction cable and the throttle cable needed to be replaced. Replacement parts from Toro were very expensive. I decided to repair it for a lot less using items I purchased from my local hardware store.
